Money Matters

Money Matters

Introduction

Your parents have just informed you that your father's job requires him to move to London, England for two years.  You and your family will be going with him.  You are happy living in southeast Arkansas, but you are excited about moving to a new country and meeting new friends.

Now that your family has moved and settled in, you begin school and meet new friends.  Your new friends, like those in Arkansas, enjoy spending their free time shopping and watching movies.  You've made plans to meet your friends on Saturday to hang out and shop.  The night before you are to meet your friends at the mall, you make a list of items to purchase.

SHOPPING LIST

Harry Potter Soundtrack
Shrek DVD
Levi's loose fit jeans
Nike Tailwind 5 tennis shoes
Harrod's Bear (for my best friend in Arkansas)
Domino's Pizza

Shopping List 1

With your $50.00 allowance for the week, and the $150.00 you have saved, you have a total of $200.00 to spend.

The Task

You have U.S. dollars and the items on your list are sold in British sterling pounds.  You must convert your money (U.S. dollars) to British sterling pounds.

Predict wether or not you will have enough money to purchase all items on your list.  What influenced your prediction?

Find prices in U.S. dollars and British sterling pounds (use shop on-line prices).  With the exception of the Harrod's bear.  The Harrod's bear is only sold at Horrod's in London.

Will you have enough money to purchase all the items on your shopping list?

If you do not have enough money for all the items what would you sacrifice?

If you have money left over, what will you do with it?

What items could you buy at a lower price in the U.S.?

What items could you buy at a lower price in England?

In which country will you get more for your dollar?

Answer the above questions in a brief report about your shopping trip.
